Properly packing suitcases

Properly packing a suitcase made easy

If somebody is going on a trip ... then the case packing is part of it. But what is the best way to pack your bags? I myself am not very skilful, but my wife has a good hand.

Pack suitcases properly for the optimal start to the holiday

Below I have summarized the tips of my wife.

The suitcase packing checklist

I am a fan of checklists myself. They help to remember nothing and structure work processes. So my wife has created a suitcase checklist, with which even packing is easy for me.
Create such a list. If required, you can supplement and refine these at any time. This is the suitcase pack jerking away.

provide overview

Before everything is put into the suitcase, you should first spread everything clearly. For the clothes is best the bed, the shoes next to it. This creates an overview and makes it easier to check off the checklist.

What needs to be done?

Ask each part to be packaged if it actually has to. It is often the case that certain utensils are provided at the holiday destination or in the hotel anyway: towels, hair dryer etc.

What in which suitcase?

Take a look at the outstretched clothing and travel accessories. Now it's time to decide what to pack in which suitcase.

Prepare pieces of luggage

Before the individual pieces are stowed in the suitcase, these are still to be made ready for travel. It is best to add cosmetics such as creams, pastes, skin oil or the like to liquid-tight bags, to put shoes in a separate (linen) bag, and to roll up clothes such as pullovers, t-shirts and pants - this saves space and keeps them wrinkle-free.

Then it comes the packing

Here one should proceed systematically:

  1. The first location to offer towels. They form the soft cushion for the other garments.
  2. Subsequently, the pants, skirts, dresses, blouses, shirts. Close the buttons on the shirts and blouses. Staggered shirts so that the collar lies once at the top and once at the bottom.
  3. If possible ensure smooth surfaces in the case, so no stacks.
  4. The rolled-up garments are best placed laterally.
  5. Socks, stockings, belts are ideal for closing cavities and optimally using the space.
  6. The top layer should be soft again. For example, another towel. Thus, the garments are stored soft in between and the wrinkling is prevented.
  7. If possible, put your shoes in your own suitcase. And so they do not get crushed, just stuff them with newspaper. If they are stowed in the suitcase with the clothes, then in a separate bag and with other heavy items at the bottom of the case.

And if, in spite of great care, one or the other wrinkle has formed in your shirt or dress and you do not have an iron on hand, then simply stretch it on a coat hanger after unpacking and hang it up in the bathroom. The water vapor produced during showering or bathing makes the wrinkles disappear as if by magic.

If you need several suitcases, ...

... for example, when you go on vacation with your family, you should divide the most important items of clothing of the family members into several suitcases and not everyone should use a suitcase for their own clothes.

Otherwise, a family member is completely without his luggage there, should a suitcase get lost or arrive late. That's why you should pack the essentials in your hand luggage - such as underwear, washing equipment, charging cables, ... - should you travel alone.
